On November 7 I’ll be showing my first short film where I did almost everything (written, directed, makeup done by…you get the picture…) and well, I’m kind of nervous about it. The whole project has been a great learning experience and it has given me a taste for stop motion animation. …but enough about me, there are some other amazing things going on at this show on November 7…..I profiled SCOLDED a few posts back so here’s the rest…..
First up is Zach Reini. He’s a really interesting local artist and musician. He owns the Leisure Gallery on Santa Fe and from the rumors I hear, he is a highly $ucessful artist on the fancy gallery circuit. He also fronts the popular hardcore band, Civilized. His solo electronic noise project Data Rainbow will be performing this evening.
I can’t recall exactly how I met Kim Shively, the director of The Existential Beaver, I’m sure it was through the Magicyclops but that could be wrong. Anyways, her films are mesmerizing, full of great pacing and gripping shots.
The first one I saw was Wesley Willis’s Joyrides , made with local filmmaker Chris Bagley. Around that time she began putting out a lot of short films, from documentaries about local tourist traps being sold to the highest bidders, to treks through abandoned missile silos to her continuous documentation of the ever evolving Titwrench Fest. (Check out Kim’s Vimeo page!)
Tonight, she’ll be showing an episode of her show, The Existential Beaver. It’s hosted by local heroes Zachary Spencer, Kevin John Wesley and Matt Slaby: three talkative young lads looking for adventure but only finding death!
And The Mayoreo Show…..a show about a talking oreo cookie who may or may not be a pimp but he’s definitely a playa…..chihuahua’s, snakes, strippers, a pool and a hot car, this things make life great….those were a bunch of taglines I thought of the first time I saw The Mayoreo Show by Stephan Herrera and Colin Ward (AKA Alpahbets). They’ve been weaving together their twisted animated show for a year now and I believe, they’ll be showing Episode 3 tonight.
Also, there’s JOHN GOLTER’S SHADOW PUPPET DISASTER and a noise project that is fairly popular around this neck of the woods called, Ghoulfriend. Either one I have yet to witness or hear but I’ll bet you they’ll be good because everything is going to good at this show, EVERYTHING!
